The Central Talks are a series of EuroCham events taking place every 2 months in Danang featuring expert talks on essential topics and a social dinner.
This edition's 1-hour Talk will be dedicated to to the topic: Vietnam’s Macroeconomy – Risks and chances in its integration into the global economy.
A unique opportunity to hear from academic expert Dr. Mori Junichi, Professor Emeritus of the University of Kyoto and a Lecturer of the Danang University about a complex but very current topic for all those living, working and doing business in Vietnam.
Vietnam’s economy has been growing at a stable rate of more than 6 % p.a. since 1989 and it is a remarkable success. While many Asian countries suffered from the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 and the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, Vietnam was not affected so much by these crises.

However, although the economy seems to be in good shape right now, there will be risks coming from its closer integration with the global economy.
This Talk will focus on the the risks and challenges posed by the macroeconomic position of Vietnam. This includes key topics such as
- the balance of payments of Vietnam
- the possible impact of the US-China trade war,
- and the banking stability of Vietnam in the face of global dynamics.

He is the Legal Representative of Vinh Thanh Investments JSC (Hue Amusement and Beach Park) and Ket Doan Garment Factory. He is also the Vice Honorary Consul of Spain in Danang.

Professor at Danang UniversityProfessor Mori is Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University, and also Visiting Professor of the Danang University - Danang University of Economics since 2016. He was Professor and Vice President for International Relations and Director General of the Organization for the Promotion of International Relations ("OPIR") of Kyoto University (2009-2013). Before he joined the International Center of Kyoto University in April 2004, he had worked at the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi offices in Frankfurt, New York, and Tokyo. During his work at Kyoto University, he oversaw the international operation of the University promoted international student exchange and was a member of the University International Strategy Council of the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science). Since 2016, he has been lehe has stayed in Danang and taught International Finance and Development Economics to young students. He is a published author on a number of books and papers on international finance relating to the foreign exchange market, the Asian Financial Crisis, and the Vietnamese and Chinese banking systems.
