The green buildings sector is one of the potential investment industries in the world and in Vietnam. According to International Finance Corporation (IFC), Vietnam's green buildings sector is almost an US$80 billion investment opportunity. The Green Infrastructure Investment Opportunities (GIIO) report presents major trends and developments for green infrastructure and energy. It showed significant investment potential adding close to US$100 trillion worldwide for the 2019-2030 period. It asserted that Vietnam would need to adopt greener infrastructure to compensate for the environmental implications of its economic development. Currently, the government and Vietnamese already realized the need for green buildings. However, according to the Ministry of Construction (MoC), by the end of 2021, Vietnam recorded just over 200 green building projects. This is a modest number compared to other countries in Southeast Asia and in the world. Meanwhile, all building types in Vietnam, including commercial, institutional, and residential, use a significant proportion of a country's resources in their lifespan.
In the world context, the European Union is committed to achieving a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and becoming the world's first climate‑neutral continent by 2050. According to this, they have to make construction more sustainable, either make the old building into a greener building or make a new construction green. In that journey, what successes and obstacles did they have? What are the key lessons for green building in Vietnam?

Mr. Andreatta has been on the EuroCham Executive Committee since 2011 and is the Chairman of EuroCham’s Green Growth Sector Committee. He is the Chief Representative in Indochina for Intesa Sanpaolo since 2008, after a 20-year career in banking and finance in Europe, the Americas and Asia. As the representative of the EuroCham Green Growth Sector Committee, he is firmly convinced that Vietnam can choose a more sustainable path to growth, in which European firms can be of substantial support.
Established in May 2014, Green Growth Sector Committee (GGSC) aims to work with stakeholders to fulfill its mission: to facilitate the mainstreaming, abolishment of barriers and development of the conditions essential for Green businesses to prosper in Vietnam. To fulfill this mission, GGSC works together with the Government of Vietnam and its agencies as well as with Vietnamese and European companies and other stakeholders.

Snyder
Executive Director of Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC)
Mr. Douglas Snyder currently serves as Executive Director of the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC) and has over 20 years of experience in green building on over 50 projects. Douglas also worked as Deputy Director of Sustainable Design with ARDOR Architects (2016-2021) where he supervised the green building certification of a variety of building types including commercial office, high-rise residential, hospitality, and industrial. He also worked closely with the IFC-World Bank to promote the EDGE green building system in Vietnam (2018-2019).
In 2014, Douglas served as a green building expert advising the Vietnam Ministry of Construction (MOC), under USAID’s Vietnam Clean Energy Project (VCEP), on green building market promotion nationally. He has continued on advisory councils for the MOC with similar goals.
Douglas was the principal consultant of his own private sector green building consulting firm (2004–2016) in the USA. Douglas is also the General Director of Keep Vietnam Clean, a broad-spectrum environmental advocacy non-profit organization. He received his B.S. in Environmental Studies in 1992, M.S. in Organizational Management in 2003, and LEED AP accreditation in 2004.
Adrian Chong
Head of Project Management of Capital Place
Adrian Chong had 13 years of working in the Vietnam Real Estate Market. He is now the Head of Project Management of Capital Place, in charge of all matters related to project management and overseeing all Northern projects.
With over his professional career in Vietnam’s real estate market, Adrian had led the project management team for a wide range of Grade A commercial, residential, and retail projects in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. He is the project manager supervising the development of Capital Place and played a key role in supporting the project to achieve LEED Gold Certification, making Capital Place the first LEED Gold Certificated building in Hanoi.

Sérgio Pereira da Silva is Chairman of CCIPV (Chamber of Commerce and Industry Portugal – Vietnam), he is also head of the Sustainable Buildings Working Group of Green Growth Sector Committee of EuroCham Vietnam, founding and Managing Partner S+A Vietnam and an architect
Ph.D. Student in Social Sustainability and Development, with a Degree in Architecture, OA, RIBA, LEED GA. Founding and Managing Partner at Saraiva + Associados, Vietnam.
Extensive knowledge of the bilateral relations between Portugal and Vietnam. He is responsible for coordinating the team, the institutional relations with European partners (namely EuroCham, AICEP, CCIP), contract management, and coordinating the internationalization of the Chamber's members.
Experienced in the following markets: Portugal, Algeria, Italy, Hong Kong, Macau, Cambodia, Myanmar, China, and The Philippines.

Mr. Dao Nguyen Khanh has MBA from CFVG, Sustainability Leadership Asia by The Swedish Institute. He spent 14 years of his professional career in Building Materials Industry in various roles Business Development, Marketing Manager and Sustainable Development including CSR and Corporate Communications. In his personal life, he is the author of a history book.
