Managing the cost and compliance, of foreign workers remains difficult, especially in an emerging market like Vietnam where ambiguous and often-changing regulations are a challenge for enterprises. The new scheme in which social insurance applies for foreign employees came into force in 2018. Enforcement procedures, including better connection between tax and immigration authorities also raises potential risks and costs to both the employer and foreign employees. Furthermore, the audit activities of the Tax Authorities, especially in some provinces in Vietnam is intensifying. It is therefore important that employers are thinking about how to mitigate these risks and adopt better practices when facing controversy or disputes with the relevant Government authorities.
