Business has been a driving force Of Vietnam's economic growth in recent years, with the domestic private sector accounting for 39% of GDP in 2016 and foreign direct investment adding another 19%. The contribution to the economy has translated into creation of jobs, poverty reduction and improved living conditions.

Vietnam currently boasts one of the highest rate of participation by women in the region with 72% (ILO 2017), however women tend to be clustered in the most vulnerable occupations and face barriers to equal access of economic opportunities. Moreover, one study by Deloitte (2017) notes that Vietnamese enterprises have less than 18% women on executive boards and only 7% companies are led by a woman CEO.
