The Annual Vietnam - EU Trade Forum Returned Once More to HCMC
image
On September 29, EuroCham participated in the Vietnam - EU Trade Forum with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and the EU Delegation to Vietnam to discuss "Vietnam - EU Cooperation to Build a Sustainable and Diversified Supply Chain." Market fluctuations were discussed, commodity export risks were warned about, and the EVFTA's implementation was evaluated. EU-Vietnam cooperation on sustainable development, circular economy, and energy transition topped the list of priorities.

From EuroCham, Chairman Alain Cany, EuroCham Board Member Anita H. Holgersen (Equinor), and Food Agri & Aqua Business Sector Committee (FAABS) Chairman Jesper Clausen (Royal De Heus Animal Nutrition) spoke. EuroCham's speakers highlighted GEFE 2022 several times, as did EU Ambassador to Vietnam H.E. Mr. Giorgio Aliberti and Deputy Head of Mission of the Dutch Embassy in Vietnam H.E. Mr. Christoph Prommersberger

Representatives of the MOIT, People's Committee officials, EU consular representatives, leaders of business associations, and approximately a hundred Vietnamese and European businesses participated as well.

EuroCham Chairman Alain Cany emphasized “Sustainable investments are ideal investments because they are designed for long-term success. Thus, sustainability is no longer a secondary consideration, but actually an integral part of value creation.”

From the standpoint of EquinorEuroCham Board Member Anita H. Holgersen shared that “Currently there is no regulatory framework in place. No decision has been made about how licensing will be handled, how developers will be selected, or what offtake solution will be implemented. These are important factors that need to be considered.”

Commenting on building a sustainable production chain, FAABS Chairman Jesper Clausen shared that “De Heus does not want to be the value chain owner, but rather the value chain coordinator. This supports the independence of the farmers, which is one of the main pillars in DH approach ... this role role in the value chain is appreciated by the market and in my opinion ensure innovation and an independent value chain.”
